Indonesian youngsters urged to be united for national development

Indonesian Minister for Youth and Sports Andi Alfian Malarangeng on Wednesday urged the country's youngsters to be united to contribute to national development.

With the spirit of one nation, one country and one language, Indonesian youngsters could face many challenges ahead, said Andi in Serang City of Banten province in his speech aired live by the state-run television station TVRI, for the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day.

If Indonesian youngsters could be united, he said, they would realize their goal of proud country that would be respected by its counterparts.

He also said the commemoration was coincident with the beginning of the second term of the current government.

Andi also said on Oct. 14, the parliament enacted Law of Youth, under which the central and local governments as well as the public must care for youth development.

"It also guarantees funding resource for youngster development program and capital access for youth's entrepreneurship activities," he said.

The commemoration was also attended by Vice President Boediono and Banten Governor Ratu Atut Cholsiah.
