What's the best way to protect yourself in winter, the high-incidence season of flu which is coming?
U.S. health experts will tell you some effective ways to fight the flu.
The most effective way is to get vaccinated, which causes your own body to make antibodies that target specific illnesses. It can boost your immune system to prevent being sick during the winter.
There are some other ways to help you be healthier. For instance, to eat right foods with good nutrition.
"Your nutrition profoundly affects your ability to fight these diseases," noted Katherine Tallmadge, national spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association.
"The molecules that fight disease are made of protein," Tallmadge said. And you can choose to ingest foods rich in lean protein, including chicken, fish and fat-free dairy products.
Tallmadge also reminded us to choose fruits, vegetables and whole grains in our diet. These contain important antioxidants that keep your blood levels of vitamin C, beta-carotene, zinc and B-vitamins high.
Although good nutrition is the key for a healthy immune system, exercise is equally important.
