Chen Xinxing, a college student at Chutian College, Huazhong Agricultural University
At the recent 2009 opening ceremony for freshmen at Chutian College, Huazhong Agricultural University, a special freshman delivered a speech. Her name is Chen Xinxing, a student majoring in environment design at Chutian College's School of Art and Design.
In October 2006, Chen signed up to a conscription program in Wuhan. Originally she planned to apply for the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, but she later learned that the PLA garrison in Hong Kong also had a conscription plan, and only one soldier would be conscripted from the whole of Wuhan. Chen's curiosity got the better of her and she decided to sign up for service in the PLA garrison in Hong Kong. Luckily, after several rounds of medical examination, she became the only soldier conscripted from Wuhan. At that time a total of only 30 female soldiers were conscripted from all over China to serve in the PLA garrison in Hong Kong.
After retiring from the military in November 2008, Chen returned Wuhan and worked in a company. However she found that her education level did not match that of her colleagues, and she was under great mental pressure. While others joined the army after finishing college education, Chen decided to take the opposite path, entering college after serving in the army. Chen was interested in drawing when she was young, so she hired a professor of fine arts for intensive study in this field. In June 2009, her number one choice was Chutian College, Huazhong Agricultural University, and she was successfully admitted as an environment design major student at Chutian College's School of Art and Design.
