"Wheat" Premieres in Shanghai

Movie director He Ping attended the premiere of his latest film "Wheat" on Friday in Shanghai along with the movie's four lead actors, the news website dfdaily.com reports.

Fan Bingbing, Huang Jue, Du Jiayi and Huang Xueqi joined He at the opening of the film which will start its run in cinemas nationwide on September 28.

The production team is currently traveling to various large cities throughout China to promote the film, although He seems quite low-key about its box-office prospects.

He said "Wheat" is different from other mainstream costume dramas. The storyline takes place against the backdrop of the Battle of Chang Ping during ancient China's Warring States Period. It centers on the women who were left behind after their husbands went off to war during this time.

Despite the heavy media coverage of what is largely expected to be a box office blockbuster, very few details about the film's plot have been released. The film's still shots and preview trailer show endless stretches of golden wheat fields and two ragged war deserters, one bold and unruly and the other timid and cunning, who later encounter a series of absurd events.
